Certified Legal Nurse Consultant Information
MedLegal Opinions, a consulting firm specializing in providing competent and honest medical opinions to the legal profession, is currently recruiting Certified Legal Nurse Consultants.
MedLegal Opinions is offering you the opportunity to become part of the solution to the current rash of malpractice and negligence lawsuits affecting the medical profession and causing skyrocketing annual malpractice premiums and costs across the healthcare industry. MedLegal Opinions supplies lawyers (both plaintiff and defense) with board-certified clinicians and legal nurse consultants who have strong clinical backgrounds and are interested in reviewing potential medical malpractice and/or negligence cases, personal injury cases, and, occasionally, Workman’s Compensation cases, and are committed to providing honest, unbiased opinions.
MedLegal Opinions was founded by a surgeon with over 20 years of experience in academic and clinical medicine and medical-legal matters who realized that the best way to prevent frivolous lawsuits was to provide attorneys with the most competent medical experts, who were most qualified to review a potential case and render an educated and honest opinion as to its merit. While those cases that are clearly malpractice or negligence should be identified and resolved early, those that are not, which represent the vast majority, should also be identified and disposed of to avoid unnecessary expenses and heartache. Our experience shows that when a “negative” review is rendered by a competent and respected expert, most reputable plaintiffs’ attorneys drop the matter. This benefits all parities by rewarding patients that have truly been victimized and decreasing the number of frivolous lawsuits, which cost tens of thousands of dollars to pursue, resulting in ever-increasing malpractice and health insurance premiums and untold emotional travail for unjustly accused physicians.
Working with MedLegal Opinions is hassle-free. We offer competitive hourly rates, affording you the opportunity to supplement your income. We will obtain the cases and handle all initial contact with attorneys or insurance carriers, provide you with the case material for review, and handle your initial review, assessment and reimbursement.
Participating certified legal nurse consultants will generally be asked to provide several types of service:
Expedited Nurse Review: Perform a brief review and chronology of the medical records in question summarizing the pertinent facts of the case. This document can then serve as the preliminary basis for a more Detailed Expert Witness Review.
Detailed Expert Witness Review: In addition to providing screening services for merit, services you may be asked to perform include:
● Preparation of summary and detailed chronology of events throughout case
● Define applicable Standards of Care and deviations, such as improper documentation, failure to follow adhere to appropriate “Practice Guidelines” or “Best Practices”, failure to follow recommendations of consultants, failure to adhere to hospital protocols, policies and procedures, etc;
● Assess damages/injuries for extent, prognosis, causation, and damages;
● Identify potential defendants;
● Conduct literature searches, provide analyses and summaries of relevant articles;
● Identify & review relevant hospital policies & procedures;
● Serve as liaison to physician experts;
● Assist in trial preparation: design of questions, exhibits, etc.
Expert Witness Services by Certified Legal Nurse Consultants: Occasionally, you may be asked to serve as an expert witness in a case to opine on issues regarding deviation from acceptable nursing standards of care. This may require testimony at depositions or at trial.
